Power steering

Question : MOST cars nowadays are fitted with electric power steering instead of the belt-driven type. What is the advantage of the former over the latter ?

Answer : Electric power steering is less complicated and does not have the complexity of belts, pumps and high pressure oil hoses.

You also do not have the problem of oil leaks. It also uses a motor to assist the turning of the steering shaft.

Having said that, one of the negative comments against electric power steering is its tendency not to return straight ahead when one releases the steering wheel.

This seems to affect some models more than others but in all fairness could also be caused by tyres pressures, non-standard wheels and other factors.
