| Erosions on Terrano's roof I have a 1997
Nissan Terrano. Recently there
were erosions on the rooftop at regular distance from each other. Both my mechanic and
a car body repair specialist said the erosions
were due to a certain type of gum used to
attach the interior roof material to the metallic
roof. They said this is a very difficult problem to
solve.
Without looking at the car itself, I can only suspect that what your
mechanic said was correct. There was a time when the sound deadener that was
injected between the roof and the cross braces, and also the bonnet and rear
boot lid and their internal skins had this problem due to chemical reaction
between the deadener and the bare metal.
Usually when you start to see the bubbling in the paintwork, it is too
late as the corrosion has gone right through the metal and you need to
replace the whole component. You actually cannot solve the problem because
you would need to rip out the internal skin or braces and all traces of the
deadener. In the end it is easier to replace the whole unit. |
