Rim change

Question : I AM contemplating to change the standard rims of my Waja 1.6 to a new set of sports rims.

The current size of the standard rims is 195/55R15 and I'm planning to upgrade to 16-inch.

What is the suitable size ( in terms of diameter and width ) without the need to readjust the speedometer without affecting engine performance ?

Answer : The equivalent to the 195/55R15 tyre for the 16-inch rim would be 195/50R16, 205/45R16 or 225/40R16.

All these sizes would fall within the three per cent rule and therefore you would not need to recalibrate the speedometer.

However, take note that larger tyres create more rolling resistance and while cornering ability may improve somewhat, you may lose out in top speed and even acceleration.
