Mid-range lapse

Question : MY 1992 Proton Saga lacks pick up at mid-range ( usually at around 40 km/h).

Is this a compression problem ?

Answer : Around 40 km/h, in what gear and at what rpm ?

When one talks about mid-range, we usually mean middle of the operating range of the engine rpm, i.e. if the maximum rpm is 6,000, then the mid-range would be about 3,000.

You could be trying to get the engine to pull at 40 km/h in 5th gear, and this would be difficult as the engine revs would be very low and may be pulling very low torque.
