Oil change

Question : I AM the owner of a 2011 Toyota Altis 1.8E.

How do I take care of the new CVVTi seven-speed gearbox ? As my usage is around 5,000km per month, do I need to change the gear oil every 30,000km.

This is the first time I am using auto gear. When I park, is it better to shift to "N" first and then switch the engine off before shifting to "P" ?

Answer : According to the Altis 1.8 E Owners Manual, there is no replacement necessary. Only inspection by an authorised Toyota service center is required at every 80,000km interval.

You can safely shift to P before switching off the engine.

However, you will note that the vehicle must be stationary before shifting into P. Engaging P engages a pawl into a gear and locks up the whole transmission. Therefore the vehicle should not be moving when this is done.
