Extra fuel use

Question : DOES installing extra electric components such as a fog lamp consume more fuel ? I'm driving a Nissan Sentra Sport 1.6 (M).

Answer : Nothing is for free! Any accessory or electrical component requires energy and this energy must come from somewhere, whether it is from the battery or directly from the alternator.

In either case, the alternator needs to run the component or charge up the battery. This incurs drag on the engine and consumes fuel.

Similarly, the air-conditioning compressor pulls power from the engine to compress the gas and that consumes fuel.
