Question : YOU said that the market demands automatic cars and that manual ones are not as popular.
So, why is it that most mechanics have less know-how and are not
interested in fixing the automatic gearbox.
Actually, automatic transmissions are easier to service and repair than manual ones provided one has the correct "special tools" and the repair manuals.
This is because A/Ts are built with
greater precision and many of the settings and adjustments are given in the manual and need to be followed.
Also, the "special tools" are needed to dismantle and assemble the components.
Although one can say it is a specialised job, in actual fact any mechanic trained in A/T repair can do the job with ease.
Most mechanics operating private workshops have not had formal training in automotive mechanics,
let alone A/Ts and therefore are quite hesitant to touch these transmissions.
They rather swap transmissions with used units.
Generally, fuel injection systems are quite trouble free and service intervals are much further apart.
On the negative side, the EFI system parts are more expensive when you need to replace them.
