A/T conversion

Question : I DRIVE a 660, 2004 Kancil and plan to convert it to auto transmission.

Please advise on the pros and cons of such a conversion and what sort of auto gearbox would be the best choice :

Upon conversion, will I be still getting lower fuel consumption and higher mileage ?

Answer : While converting from a manual to automatic is not such a big job if you know what to do, it also involves removal of the flywheel and replacement with a torque convertor from a similar model.

Also, the A/T should be from a similar model.

One cannot simply pick up an A/T from a used parts lot and try fitting it in.

Remember that the gear ratio and torque convertor stall speeds and also the shift points are specific to a particular model and engine and one cannot just swap transmissions around.

Expect to get slightly poorer fuel consumption and lower performance than the manual as the engine is quite small and there are higher losses in an automatic.
