Metal head gasket

Question : What are the advantages of using the 'metal head gasket'. instead of the carbon-type conventional one?

Answer : I think you are referring to the metal as opposed to the graphite coated type. Actually if the mating surfaces are flat and even, and the right gasket compound is used with the metal gasket, there is no difference between the two. However, competition guys will always use metal gaskets because they are less likely to leak under the high cylinder pressures and competition conditions. In the case of road going cars, there is really no need to use anything other than that recommended by the engine manufacturer.
