Brake horsepower

Question : WHAT is bhp of a vehicle ? How is bhp measured/calculated and is there a connection between the engine capacity and number of bhp it produced ?

Answer : The brake horsepower of an engine is the work that an engine can do and while it can be theoretically calculated, provided one has the right information and formulae, normally when one talks about bhp one is relating to the horsepower that is developed when the engine is run on a dynamometer.

There is no relationship between the engine capacity and the horsepower developed and the power developed is dependent on the state of tune of the engine.
