Handbrake use

Question : A FRIEND told me that when I engage my car to "P", it is not necessary to pull up the handbrake.

He said that it is only necessary to do so when I engage to "N".

What do you say ?

Answer : P is the park position and actually is just a pawl locking into a gear in the transmission.

Although that can hold the car, I do not trust it 100 percent as it is possible that it can detach itself through wear and tear as well as misconnection.

I therefore use the parking brake at the same time.
