Faulty converter

Question : MY mechanic ripped off the catalytic converter of my 10-year-old car, saying it's a strain on the engine.

What's your opinion ?

Answer : That is the problem with mechanics who did not go to school or have not been keeping up with the times. Unfortunately, we have a lot of them around who are giving wrong advice.

The only time when the cat convertor poses a problem is if it has been abused by using leaded fuel or, after time as in your case, it has become clogged and needs to be replaced.

Replacement of the cat convertor, while it does not directly help the engine to run cleaner (as that is determined by the tuning and the state of the engine itself), is our responsibility, as it will keep the environment clean.
