Transmission choice

Question : WHICH transmission is better? CVT or the normal torque lock-up converter?

Answer : They are two different things.

A CVT is a continuously variable transmission which is very much like an automatic transmission except there are no actual gears being shifted and the ratios are continuously variable.

A lock-up convertor is fitted to an automatic transmission and what it does is that above certain revs it locks up and there is no slippage. This results in better fuel consumption and is more noticeable on longer drives where there is a constant average speed.

Personally, I prefer a transmission with lock-up rather than CVT but there is nothing wrong with both as they achieve similar results through different technologies.
