Align wheels after replacing shocks

Question : THE shock absorbers on my KIA Spectra need replacing but I have a nagging question. Do the wheels require realignment after shock absorber replacement?

Answer : WHETHER wheel alignment is needed or not after shock absorber replacement depends on the design of the suspension system.

If the front suspension is of a double wish- bone design, the shock absorber can usually be removed without disturbing other suspension components.

On a McPherson strut system (like that on the front of the KIA Spectra), the spring and shock absorber form a single assembly that must be removed from the vehicle before the shock absorber can be replaced.

On the whole, I would recommend wheel realignment if any part of the suspension has been dismantled since it is relatively cheap to carry out.
