Air-cond service

Question : I AM driving a 2005 Nissan Sentra that has done 65,000km.

I have yet to service the air conditioning system.

A technician told me that the Sentra uses a high quality APM air-conditioning system and does not have a filter that needs to be changed and serviced regularly.

Should I service the air-cond for the sake of preventive maintenance.

What is your recommended interval for servicing the air-cond ?

Answer : Air conditioning systems, like all things mechanical, will wear through use.

It is a good practice to get the system serviced once the cooling efficiency is noticed to be reduced.

During this service, the lubricating oil is drained out and replaced with fresh oil, the evaporator is removed, cleaned and checked for leaks, and the system vacuumed and recharged.

One must remember that the evaporator operates in the passenger compartment and collects all types of dirt, fluff and dust, thus reducing the efficiency of the air conditioning system.

The receiver/drier may also need to be replaced as its main function is to remove any water vapor in the refrigerant.

Four years appear to be a long time and I think you should get the system serviced.
