Stiff bearing

Question : THERE is a bearing on top of the front absorbers.

Sometimes as the car ages, the bearings get a little stiff.

Answer : All cars that use McPherson strut suspensions have a bearing at the top of the strut and it tends to be forgotten.

Normally the bearing does not get stiff but wears out and one will get 'clunking' noises when going over bad roads.

These bearings do not have a facility for lubrication and it is possible that over time, a bearing could stiffen due to lack of use.
